Location Data & Driver Privacy
Money By The Mile is built for owner-operators. Your location data belongs to you — here is exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can turn it off.
What location data we collect
We only collect location data when you actively use a feature that needs it. We never run background location tracking.
Current device location
Used to pre-fill the origin field in the Load Analyzer and Trip Planner when you tap "Use my location." We request it on demand — never in the background.
Trip and route data
Pickup addresses, delivery addresses, planned routes, and waypoints you enter when analyzing or planning a load.
Saved locations
Addresses you explicitly save for quick reuse — your home terminal, frequent shippers, receivers, and fuel stops.
Travel history
A record of past trips and loads you have completed or saved within the app, used to populate your Earnings and Load History views.
Your location privacy controls
In Settings → Preferences → Location Privacy you have three independent toggles. Each one takes effect immediately and can be changed at any time without affecting your subscription or other features.
Allow Current Location
Whether the app may request your device GPS/network location to pre-fill trip origin fields.
When off: You enter addresses manually. No location permission is requested.
Save to Travel History
Whether completed and saved loads are recorded in your trip history.
When off: New trips stop being saved. Existing history is not deleted — you can clear it separately.
Save Frequent Locations
Whether the app learns and suggests your most-used addresses for faster entry.
When off: No new frequent-location data is stored. Existing suggestions are cleared.
How we use location data
Location data is used exclusively to provide the services you requested:
- Calculating mileage, fuel costs, and load profitability estimates.
- Generating commercial truck routes via HERE Technologies routing services.
- Populating your trip history and earnings records.
- Suggesting saved or frequent locations to speed up data entry.
Third-party routing: HERE Technologies
Trip Planner routes are calculated using the HERE Technologies routing API. When you plan a trip, origin, destination, and waypoint coordinates are transmitted to HERE Technologies solely to generate a route. HERE Technologies' use of this data is governed by their own privacy policy. We do not store raw coordinate data beyond what is needed to display and save your planned route.their privacy policy
Data retention and deletion
Location-related data is retained for as long as your account is active or until you delete it. You can:
- Delete individual saved locations from the Saved Locations section of the app.
- Clear your travel history from your account settings.
- Request deletion of all location data by emailing support@moneybythemile.com.
Upon account deletion, all location data associated with your account is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
